ReCORK is super excited to announce the new CORKWATCH mobile web app. Co-developed with our friends at the Cork Quality Council, this new app is your on-the-go directory for wines bottled with natural cork.
CORKWATCH was designed to help you choose wines based on the virtue of natural cork. Natural cork is the absolute best and most sustainable choice for wine bottle closures. When choosing a bottle of wine, ask yourself if you want your wine touched by processed metal or petroleum based plastic? Or would you prefer the authentic, proven choice: pure natural cork. CORKWATCH helps consumers make the easy choice.
You can search by wine (including brand, vintage, etc...) to find out if the wine you are thinking about buying uses a natural cork stopper. Currently we have over 1,700 wines listed on the site, so next time you're ordering a bottle of wine at dinner make sure you dial up the CORKWATCH web app on your phone to verify it uses natural cork.
You can also add wines based on your own personal discovery. If you've searched for your favorite wine and it's not listed on CORKWATCH yet, you can add it to the site. 1,700 wines is a good start but there are thousands of wines to add. *Note: if you are a winemaker and your wines are not listed, it's go-time.
In reality, the web app is a platform agnostic mobile site. That means it works on all mobile platforms (iOS, Android, WebOS, Blackberry and more). I personally have the web app loaded on my iPhone 4 and my iPad. However, if your tool of choice is not an Apple product, you're still good to go.
Tip: When you visit the site at recork.org/corkwatch in mobile Safari (iOS) you can add an app-style icon to your menu by selecting the bookmark/share menu and then choosing "Add to Home Screen". Presto, app icon in place. More recent versions of Android and other platforms should have a similar feature.
Since we wanted to make sure everything worked smoothly, the first iteration of the app is really clean and simple. Once we've really had a chance to break the site in we're planning on adding some new features, so please stay tuned.
We've already had some terrific press on the release of CORKWATCH. If you're interested in featuring CORKWATCH on your site please drop us a line and we'll get you the special media scoop.
We're looking forward to everyone's feedback and hope you'll blow up our servers because you're adding so many wines to the list!
