Cork trees are an environmentally sustainable resource, and an important source of carbon dioxide sequestration. Layers of the tree bark are stripped off (without harming the tree) and turned into various products including wine closures.
Used corks are collected from ReCORK partners in the wine, hospitality and retail markets, and then stored until large amounts can be shipped efficiently to our grinding facility.
The corks are ground into various sizes of granules based on planned usage.
The ground cork will be blended into SOLE's unique formulations and used in the production of SOLE's product lines and packaging. By recycling we can extend the useful life of a wine cork for years to come. SOLE's target is to switch from sustainable, virgin cork to ReCORK recycled cork for the Spring 2011 season.
